The Kapuskasing Fire Department wants to remind the community of Christmas tree safety this holiday season.
Fire Department Chief Pat Kennedy says it takes only a few seconds for a tree to burst into flames within your home.
Kennedy says ways to prevent that from happening would be double-checking for worn cords on electrical decorations and turning them off when not in use.
He says you should also select a fresh looking tree and keep it hydrated, or a fire-resistant artificial one.
He says all electrical decorations need to be double-checked for worn cords and refrain from blocking any doorways with your tree.
The Kapuskasing Fire Department would like to wish the community a safe and happy holiday season.
