The OPP is alerting members of the Cochrane and surrounding communities to be aware of fraudsters claiming to be with the Canadian Revenue Agency.
Police say fraudsters who have claimed to be with the CRA are threatening criminal investigations or possible arrest for unpaid taxes.
Officers say there have been a handful of cases in the area regarding payments for unpaid taxes in the form of wire transfers or e-transfers.
Police say when the CRA contacts someone they will never; ask for personal information, request a payment over a transfer of any kind and they will never threaten a client with arrest.
The OPP is asking that to report an instance of fraud you contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud call centre.
