Major changes have been proposed to the current tax law from the federal government and Kapuskasing wants to be sure they will work for all.
That is according to Chair of Finance Dave Plourde, who says that was the main factor behind council’s decision to support Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant’s request for a survey with respect to the proposed changes.
Plourde says the request to participate in the survey was easy to accept considering the information gathered will help direct what happens next in this process.
Plourde says following the survey the different municipalities will have to then choose what they wish to do as a next step.
The significant proposed changes to the tax law could affect the ability of ratepayers to save for retirement and reverse many years of accepted tax planning.
