Agriculture’s continued growth in Northern Ontario has been furthered by projects such as College Boreal’s Intro to Beef Cattle Farming.
The college’s eight-week summer program is in partnership with the Beef Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and also the Kapuskasing Demonstration Farm.
College Boreal’s Director of the Kapuskasing Campus Michelle Lebel says the idea for the program really began when they had a meeting this past fall with the BFO.
Lebel says one of the priorities for College Boreal is to keep agriculture improving moving forward.
She says the eight-week program is meant to be a pilot project that introduces participants to responsible beef production and gives them the skills to succeed working on a beef farm or running their own operation.
