OHF Championship Could Generate up to $100,000 for Kapuskasing

The Kapuskasing Minor Ice Hawks will be hosting the 2017 Ontario Hockey Federation Championship in April.

The Icehawks will welcome some of the best peewee hockey teams from across the province for this tournament. Co-Chair of the Kapuskasing Minor Hockey Assosiation, Sam Gaulin says the championship will bring over 80 families to Kapuskasing providing a significant economic boost to the community. She says this tournament will have an impact on most local businesses as up to $100,000 in economic activity could be provided through hotels and restaurants. Gaulin says the event has been hosted in Kap before, but it’s been a long time.

The host team is responsible for paying for the cost of the event which is why they are asking local business to come on board and help sponsor. Gaulin says for sponsors looking to get involved they can get a hold of either the Icehawks via Facebook or email or get in touch with Andre Robichaud from the Kapuskasing EDC.

The Icehawks will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament since they are the host team, but Gaulin says they’re trying to go as NOHA champions. The tournament is expected to not only have a positive economic impact on the community, but also give local hockey players the opportunity to play against some of the best peewee teams in the province.
